Speed and pitch
Why does changing audio speed change pitch?
Faster audio ends sooner and sounds higher. Slower audio lasts longer and sounds lower.
AudioCut changes playback rate, so pitch changes with speed. It offers 0.75×, 1×, 1.25× and 1.5×; pitch preservation is not available.

How to do it
Choose a speed
Follow these steps, then listen before downloading.
- 01
Start with a small change
Choose 1.25× when you want a shorter listen without a dramatic change, or 0.75× when you need more time to hear a passage.
- 02
Check the expected duration
AudioCut shows how the selected rate changes the length before processing. Faster rates produce a shorter MP3; slower rates make it longer.
- 03
Preview the voice or music
Pitch moves with speed in this version. Listen before download, especially when the recording includes music or a speaker whose tone matters.
Quick check
What each speed does
Use playback rate when the natural pitch change is acceptable.
| Your goal | Current AudioCut behavior | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Make a voice memo a little quicker | 1.25× shortens duration and raises pitch naturally | Listen in Processed audio mode and keep 1.25× only if the voice remains clear. |
| Slow down a hard-to-hear passage | 0.75× lengthens duration and lowers pitch naturally | Listen to the preview before saving the MP3. |
| Keep a voice or music pitch unchanged | Not available in the current mode | Do not assume this tool preserves pitch; choose a pitch-preserving editor if that is required. |
| Change the timing of a video | Exports adjusted audio only | Current AudioCut tools do not create an edited video. |
Calculate the time change before you export
Playback rate changes how quickly the retained samples are played. At 1.25×, a 60-second passage is about 48 seconds long. At 0.75× it is about 80 seconds. This duration calculation uses the passage left after any manual cuts, not necessarily the full original file.
A shorter result from speed adjustment is different from a shorter result from deleting pauses. Speed affects the whole retained passage and changes its pitch; silence removal removes selected time and joins the retained sections in order.
If you only want less waiting between spoken phrases, try silence removal instead of speeding up the whole voice. If you want faster playback and accept the pitch change, preview a representative section at the chosen rate before exporting.
60 s ÷ 1.25 = 48 s
No passage is deleted. The retained audio plays faster.
Keep in mind
Before you save
- The original file stays unchanged; the tool creates a separate MP3 result.
- AudioCut can use a supported video's audio track, but the result will not contain the picture.
- The selectable rates are fixed in the current version: 0.75×, 1×, 1.25× and 1.5×.
Common questions
Short answers for this task.
Can I speed up audio without changing pitch?
Not with the current AudioCut speed mode. Pitch changes naturally as the playback rate changes.
Why does faster audio have a shorter duration?
The same audio is played back in less time. AudioCut calculates and shows the expected duration for the selected speed.
Can I slow down a video with this tool?
You can adjust a supported video's audio track, then export MP3. AudioCut does not currently preserve or slow down the video picture.
