Try a reproducible silence-removal example
AudioCut generated this 3-second, mono, 48 kHz, 16-bit WAV: a 440 Hz tone from 0–1 seconds, digital silence from 1–2 seconds, then the tone from 2–3 seconds. You may use and modify these sample files freely. Start with low playback volume.
Download the input and open it in Silence Remover. Keep the full export range, make no manual cuts, and set the threshold to −40 dB, minimum silence to 0.6 seconds and padding to 0.15 seconds per edge. Run silence detection and compare the original and processed audio.
The detection and edit calculation select 1.15–1.85 seconds for removal: 0.70 seconds removed, 2.30 seconds retained. The reference WAV contains those retained samples. Check that both tones remain and that the gap is shorter.
This is a synthetic signal test, not a speech-quality benchmark. The reference WAV is generated from the detection and edit calculation; the tool exports MP3, whose encoded duration may differ slightly. This example does not test browser decoding, MP3 encoding, background noise or quiet word endings.

Threshold sets the level below which audio qualifies as quiet. Minimum silence duration filters out short breaks. Padding leaves space at both edges of a detected gap. The starting values are −40 dB, 0.6 seconds and 0.15 seconds of padding per edge. Adjust them to the recording, not to a target percentage removed.
Protect the soft parts of speech
If a fading word ending disappears, lower the threshold toward a more negative value or retain more padding. Raise the minimum duration if short natural pauses are being selected. You can restore an automatic selection instead of accepting it. The tool measures level; it cannot recognize the meaning of a pause or distinguish an “um” from another spoken word.
Check the actual result
Compare Original and Processed audio near the joins and at both ends of the export range. Keep pauses that help a listener understand an answer. After exporting MP3, open the downloaded file and check the passage you changed. The visual example is an explanation of the edit, not a prediction for your recording.

Does silence removal also remove filler words or background noise?
No. It detects quiet sections by level and duration; it does not recognize words or separate noise from speech. Select unwanted spoken fillers manually, or use a separate noise-reduction tool for background noise.
What does the silence remover actually remove?
It removes sections that stay below your selected silence threshold for at least the minimum silence duration. You can keep padding on either side of every cut.
Can it mistake quiet speech for silence?
Yes. A high threshold can catch soft words, breathing, fades or room tone. Start gently, review the detected ranges and lower the threshold if the tool is selecting too much.
How do I keep natural pauses in a conversation?
Increase the minimum silence duration to ignore short pauses, then add padding so the remaining sentences are not joined too tightly.
What if no silence is found?
Try a higher threshold or a shorter minimum silence duration. If the gaps are intentional or the recording is consistently quiet, trimming one continuous section may be the better edit.
Will removing silence reduce audio quality?
AudioCut creates a new MP3, so the result is re-encoded. The original file is not changed, and the selected MP3 bitrate affects the new file's size and quality.
Can I remove silence from a video?
You can use a supported video's audio track as the source. The result is edited audio only; AudioCut does not keep or edit the video picture.
