Play the original video first. Then check whether it contains an audio track and whether the intended track is selected. A video with no track, an unsupported codec and a silent recording need different fixes.
Rule out a playback problem
Check the player’s volume, the device output and any connected headphones. Play a file you already know has sound. If that file is silent too, changing the converter will not fix the output device.
Next, play the source video in a player that can open it. Listen at the point you intended to extract. An MP4 extension identifies a container, not a promise that a usable soundtrack exists inside it.
Follow the result you actually see
An error before a waveform appears is different from a completed export that plays quietly or silently. Use the message and source playback to choose the next check.

Choose the intended track
When more than one audio track is available, AudioCut shows a track selector with the track’s available identifying details. Check the language and codec; labels can be incomplete, so listen after switching.
Changing the selected track loads that track for editing. Review the waveform and any cut settings again before exporting. Selecting a track is not the same as mixing several tracks together.
Retry from the source, not by renaming the file
Changing .mp4 to .mp3 does not extract or encode audio. Open the original in MP4 to MP3 and allow it to decode the selected track. If decoding fails, re-export from the app that created the source or try a compatible file.
A very quiet but nonzero recording may benefit from a measured gain adjustment after extraction. An empty or genuinely silent track cannot be made audible by increasing gain. AudioCut exports sound only; it does not add a soundtrack to the video.
